What Is Withdrawal Management?

Withdrawal management, or detox, involves treatment for the withdrawal symptoms that those who are addicted to drugs or alcohol experience when they stop using drugs or drinking. Some of the services and supports we provide at Midwest Center at Youngstown include:

  • Medical care for severe withdrawal symptoms
  • Medication to ease withdrawal symptoms and curb cravings
  • Individual counseling to help patients work through the challenging emotions that can accompany detox
  • Group counseling sessions to help patients build a network of support
  • Wellness services to help patients reach a place of stability in body, mind, and spirit

Outpatient detox is an option for some individuals. Some patients may receive greater social support outside of rehabilitation by maintaining contact with friends and families. They can maintain employment, school, or other personal and professional duties, and enjoy greater freedom during treatment and fewer disruptions in life activities.

Alcohol Withdrawal Management

Alcohol withdrawal symptoms can be dangerous, especially for those with a severe addiction to alcohol. In some cases, alcohol detox can involve seizures or tremors, and medical care is needed to avoid any complications.

Drug Withdrawal Management

For those addicted to opioids, stimulants, or benzos, withdrawal symptoms can vary. Opioid withdrawal symptoms can be mitigated with medications like Suboxone. In our center, we ensure that patients are as comfortable as possible during the withdrawal process.

Withdrawal symptoms may be managed with buprenorphine products (Suboxone) and comfort medications as needed.
